Metamorphosis

Acrylic, fabric and yarn on canvas

In painting, I’ve often been asked to create a self-portrait, yet after three years, I still haven’t finished one. I keep on wondering what is true: the version of me seen by others, or the one that exists within? Each time I ask myself, I feel split between Dora in Toronto and Mu Yan in Shanghai, separated by time and space. I use the chameleon as a metaphor for this shifting identity, constantly adapting to different environments while seeking an inner equilibrium.
