We Care

2022

Ceramic clay, stand, newspaper, wire, leaves, and downtown landscapes

12 inches x 12 inches x 15 inches

This sculpture grew out of my experience volunteering with the 3.5 Club to support the homeless. The inspiration came one winter day on my way to an exhibition, when a brief exchange of glances with a man on the street felt like two travelers crossing different roads of the same journey. In his eyes, I saw both fragility and our shared humanity. I translated that moment into form, hoping to challenge indifference and remind viewers that vulnerability is not an exception but a universal state. Even small acts of care can bring meaningful change. Kindness may not transform every environment, but to me, the choice to care is where humanity begins. I attached the website I designed for this project here: doraduan0720.wixsite.com/my-site-3; for more information, please refer to my common app main essay.
